As you are aware, there is a move to have greater traceability and identification for all medical instruments and as such there is a system called Global Medical Device Nomenclature, which allocates specific numbers to every family of medical instrument. This is gaining world-wide recognition and fast becoming a requirement when you purchase or sell medical instruments or need to register the instruments with your Medical Device Authority.
